Osteoporosis is the thinning of bones causing them to become brittle and easily fractured. Osteoporosis is often referred to as the silent disease as you cannot see it or feel it happening. For hormonal reasons, osteoporosis is much more common in women than in men, but by taking regular weight-bearing exercise it is possible to stimulate the bones to strengthen. Diet is also important: ensuring that you have an adequate intake of calcium will reduce your risk of getting osteoporosis.

Prevention packages include:

  • Handouts indicating foods that are high in calcium
  • A specific exercise programme designed for weight bearing activity
